- Indian Rock Schoolhouse Association
- began as a grass roots organization in 2000. It was established to restore a boarded-up 1858 schoolhouse, making it into a living history museum. Ten years later, the restoration work is finished and historic designation has been granted. Both on-site and outreach educational programs have begun. An open-air pavilion has been constructed at the site to provide much needed additional instructional space. 2008 and 2009 saw many visits by local school children, churches and clubs, a concert at the in the pavilion and outreach trunk shows in the community. A growing Arbor Day celebration in the spring is conducted and a tree planting is held in the “schoolyard” at Indian Rock every year. The “trunk shows” program takes local history and school memorabilia to classrooms, clubs and senior groups. Visitors wishing to learn about 19th century rural life and education are welcome at Indian Rock Schoolhouse by appointment only.
